Fred Segal Beauty: The Genesis

It all started with Shampoo...

Los Angeles - Since inception, Fred Segal Beauty has functioned in an innovative and unconventional format, proving to be an industry leader and a lifestyle pioneer. Belying tradition and remaining experimental, Fred Segal Beauty has created a vision unto itself. Having successfully pioneered a multi-dimensional salon-spa-retail-agency-workshop concept, Fred Segal Beauty remains internationally admired for its trailblazing philosophy, talented artists, innovative product selection, strategic business alliances and A-list clientele.

Conceived by Paul DéArmas and Michael A. Baruch, the vision for Fred Segal Beauty took root in 1991. DéArmas, the creative backbone, and Baruch, the well-seasoned entrepreneur, joined forces in drafting the blueprint for Fred Segal Beauty. A Cuban native, DéArmas was trained internationally as a fine artist, sharpened his hairdressing skills at Vidal Sassoon and served as Artistic Director for Sebastian International for nine years. Baruch, a long-time friend of DéArmas, brought business savvy to the table, having previously conceptualized, developed and sold several successful businesses before co-founding Fred Segal Beauty with Paul. Their relationship, characterized by ingenuity and a wealth of experience, at first, fashioned their concept for Fred Segal Beauty and now serves to realize various stages of their vision as well as foster the exploration of future initiatives.

When developing their concept, DéArmas and Baruch immediately determined Fred Segal to be the center point from which their future company must originate. DéArmas and Baruch strongly believed the Fred Segal environment, philosophy and brand to be harmonious with their vision.
