MALE (late 30s; African-American) - MANN WARREN. A discharged Vietnam-era soldier and now a patient in a VA hospital, has killed in war, even his own spirit, very bright with a poet’s outlook on life;
MALE (middle to late 30s; Caucasian) - DOCTOR MARK. Chief VA physician, dedicated doctor with a real sense of humor, which is misplaced at times;
FEMALE (early 20s; African-American) - GENA HESTLE. A VA nurse, hopeless romantic, has a soft spot in her heart for poets and young men who feel deeply;
FEMALE (late teens to 21; biracial Asian/African-American) - VA COUNSELOR. A psychologist, very bright and compassionate, an honor student on a fast track, extremely personable, a foreign exchange student who attended medical school in the States and has never gone home;
