"Boleros for the Disenchanted" Theatre Audition
Florida Studio Theatre (Sarasota, FL), a 35-year-old professional regional theatre, is casting Boleros for the Disenchanted. From 1953 Puerto Rico to contemporary America, a young couple overcomes adversity and discovers a world of hope and love. Immigrating to the U.S., Flora and Eusebio experience new adventures, obstacles, and life lessons. In a mystical journey through the ages, they realize they have overcome the biggest obstacle of all—finding true love.
SEEKING:
FEMALE (mid-20s; Hispanic) - FLORA. Latina, thin, serious, pious, doubles as Eve, a young Spanish nurse in Act 2;
FEMALE (40s; Hispanic) - DONA MILLA. Latina, Flora’s mother, strong, earthy, doubles as Older Flora in Act 2;
MALE (50s; Hispanic) - DON FERMIN. Latino, Flora’s father, tough as nails, weathered, doubles as Older Eusebio in Act 2;
MALE (late 20s to early 30s; Hispanic) - MANUELO. Latino, Flora’s fiancé, slender, handsome, a little shallow and a bit of a cad, doubles as the Priest in Act 2;
FEMALE (early to mid-20s) - PETRA. Flora’s cousin, pretty, a dreamer, wants a better life in America, doubles as Monica, a shy young woman in Act 2;
MALE (late 20s to early 30s) - EUSEBIO. Latino, a member of the Puerto Rican National Guard, charming, intelligent, doubles as Oscar, Monica’s fiancé in Act 2
